This page relates ‘Rajashekhara’s descriptions on Origin of Poetry� of the study on the Kavyamimamsa of Rajasekhara: a poetical encyclopedia from the 9th century dealing with the ancient Indian science of poetics and rhetoric (also know as alankara-shastra). The Kavya-mimamsa is written in eighteen chapters representing an educational framework for the poet (kavi) and instructs him in the science of applied poetics for the sake of making literature and poetry (kavya).

Part 2 - Ჹś󲹰’s descriptions on Origin of Poetry

In the third chapter of Ჹś󲹰’s 屹ⲹmīmāṃsā described the story relating to the 屹ⲹܰṣoٱ貹ٳپ (origin of poetry), origin of metrical composition with its subsequent developments in a chronological order. The story also connected with the customs and manners prevents in the different parts of India and also the marriage of 屹ⲹ-ܰṣa (poetry) with 󾱳ٲⲹ-վ-ղū (literary criticism). The novel concept of 屹ⲹ-ܰṣa� is the fruit of Ჹś󲹰’s poetic genius and it probably suggested by nation of Veda-ܰṣa. In this description Ჹś󲹰 seems to be the only Āṃk첹 who may be try to appreciates of women participation in poetic world.

The story of 屹ⲹ-ܰṣa� given by Ჹś󲹰 is based on ʳܰṇa (myths). However, we have found many other Sanskrit literatures also gives the various accounts of origin of 屹ⲹ-ܰṣa� i.e. Ѳٲ, Buddhacarita and ṇa’s Harṣacarita[1]. But Ჹś󲹰 gives this legendary account of origin of 屹ⲹ brings into the light of paramount important which is attach to poetic expression.
