VIII. Purusayita or Woman Acting like a Man
The eighthadhyaya of the second adhikarang describes
the behaviour of women when they act like a man. The
Kamasutra says "When a woman sees that her lover is
fatigued by constant congress, without having his desire
satisfied, she should with his permission, lay him down
upon his back andgive him assistance by acting his part.
She may also do this to satisfy the curiosity of her lover

or her own desire of novelty,
The Ratirahasya states
"A female should act like a male when her lover seems

tired in sex-sport or according to her wish. Kalyāṇamalla
expresses the same idea when he discusses this topic.
3 Sanskrit poets have given much importance to Puruṣa-
yita and described it in various ways. One poet describes
