Historical Elements in the Matsya Purana

This page relates ‘Saptadvipa (6): Gomedakadvipa� of the study on the historical elements of the Matsya-purana: one of the eighteen Mahapuranas which are Sanskrit texts that have preserved the cultural heritage, philosophy, religion, geography, etc of ancient India. This Matsyapurana was originally written in 20,000 verses and deals with topics such as architecture, ancient history, polity, religion and philosophy.

Saptadvīpa (6): Ҵdz岹첹屹ī貹
ܰǻ岹첹岵 is surrounded by the Ҵdz岹첹屹ī貹 . Its expansion is twice the size of the Ś屹ī貹 . That island has two Mountains with high peaks. The first name among them is ܳ. This Mountain is adorned with dark colors like Anjana (eyeliner). The second Mountain is named Kumuda , which is rich in all kinds of medicines. The Ҵdz岹첹屹ī貹 is surrounded by ṣuǻ岹岵 , twice the size of the sixth ܰǻ岹岵 . It has two very elaborate territories called ٳٰī and Kumuda , which are known as �Havyaputra �. The first ṣa of Sumana Mountain is called ٳٰīkhaṇḍa . This is the first ṣa of the first Mountain called ٳٰī . The ṣa which is called by Gomeda , is also called Sarvasukha . After this, the second Kumudparvat region is also known as Kumuda . These two Mountains are higher than all other Mountains. On the cast side of this Gomedaka Island lays a Mountain called ܳ , which extends from east to west. Similarly, a Mountain named Kumuda is located in the western part of this island. Due to the phase of these Mountains, that country has been divided into two parts. The southern part of this island is called ٳٰī khanda and in its later part is the second ṣa called Kumuda . These two regions of Ҵdz岹첹屹ī貹 are considered very elaborate.[1]
