Part 3 - Significant concepts of Kashmir Saivism
In Kashmir Saivism certain concepts are very significant which form the epistructure of the philosophy. Some of them which find place in our text under study-[°ä¾±»å²µ²¹²µ²¹²Ô²¹³¦²¹²Ô»å°ù¾±°ìÄå], are dealt with in this chapter.
The Anugraha aspect of Åš¾±±¹²¹â€™s five great functions viz., ³§á¹›á¹£á¹i, Sthiti, ³§²¹á¹ƒhÄå°ù²¹, °Õ¾±°ù´Ç»å³óÄå²Ô²¹ and Anugraha is called Åš²¹°ì³Ù¾±±èÄå³Ù²¹ which falls under nine classifications based upon the state of grace. Next is the very cause of empirical evolution viz., the three impurities (Āṇa±¹²¹-²ÑÄå²âÄ«²â²¹-°Äå°ù³¾²¹á¹‡a Malas) which is imposed by ³§±¹Äå³Ù²¹²Ô³Ù°ù²â²¹ Åš²¹°ì³Ù¾± in her form of ²ÑÄå²â²¹. Then come the four ±«±èÄå²â²¹²õ -the ways and means to ascend to the level of universal consciousness from individual consciousness known as ÅšÄå³¾²ú³ó²¹±¹²¹ ÅšÄå°ì³Ù²¹ Āṇa±¹²¹ ´¡²Ô³Ü±èÄå²â²¹²õ. á¹¢a»å²¹»å³ó±¹Äå²õ [á¹¢aá¸a»å³ó±¹Äå²õ?] of universal manifestation come next, three each in ±¹Ä峦²â²¹ and ³ÕÄ峦²¹°ì²¹ representing Åš¾±±¹²¹ and Åš²¹°ì³Ù¾± governing the subjective and objective aspects which encompass the entire evolution. ²ÑÄå³Ùá¹›k²¹³¦²¹°ì°ù²¹ the ²õÅ«°ìá¹£m²¹ form of the universal manifestation occuring due to the union of Åš¾±±¹²¹ and Åš²¹°ì³Ù¾± is discussed in detail. Four phases of ³ÕÄ峦 which constitute the subtle form of creation in cosmic and empirical manifestation is described.
Uniqueness of reflection technique unfolded by the divine couple in projecting the manifestation is highlighted next.
The very important concept of the emergence of the thirty-six elements, from Åš¾±±¹²¹ to ±Êá¹›t³ó±¹Ä« are reckoned in the retreading order in manifestation is explained. Next the travel through five states by the Micro-cosmic body of empirical being to attain the state of Åš¾±±¹²¹- the Macrocosmic form is enlisted.Lastly the seven levels of the seven types of perceivers who undertake the inward journey towards the souce of emanation is emphasised.
Åš²¹°ì³Ù¾±±èÄå³Ù²¹-Anugraha aspect of Åš¾±±¹²¹
The five great acts of Åš¾±±¹²¹ are:
- ³§á¹›á¹£á¹i, the creative act;
- Sthiti, the act of Maintenance;
- ³§²¹á¹ƒhÄå°ù²¹, the destructive act;
- °Õ¾±°ù´Ç»å³óÄå²Ô²¹, the act of enfolding or concealing His nature;
- Anugraha, the act of unfolding or revealing His nature.
Individual soul also accomplishes each of these acts which are called ‘actionsâ€ because this kind of act is dependent on the will of Åš¾±±¹²¹ only. Individual being can not act on his own will. As Åš¾±±¹²¹ only is completely independent ‘Actâ€ is attributed to Åš¾±±¹²¹ and ‘Actionâ€ relates to the individual soul.
