The essay studies the ancillary literature of the Atharva-Veda with special reference to the Parisistas. It does so by understanding the socio-cultural and philosophical aspects of ancient Indian life. The Atharvaveda addresses encompasses all practical aspects of life from health and prosperity to rituals and sorcery.

14 that the Vedic ceremony had undergone various modifications
and the same ceremony at Puranic period had but little
affinity with the Vedic rite 5.
1. The Rajaprathamabhiseka
The subject of the Rajaprathamabhiseka (AVP 3) is
treated at length in the 17th kandika of the Kaus. The AVP
frequently refer to the Kaus. and, in a sense, supplement its
treatment by giving a list and description of the articles to
be used at the consecration. The rules regarding the
16 appointment of the Atharvan and regarding the daksina which
is to be given away to him, are also mentioned. The articles
necessary for the Rajaprathamabhiseka are: 1) chariot, 2)
throne, 3) parasol, 4) chowries, 5) flags, 6)
elephants, 7) horses, 8) garments, 9) ornaments, 10)
skin of a red bull and 11) waters from great river??
