Sanskrit text, Unicode transliteration and English translation of verse 3.14.237:
गवां विशेषणत्वे� यद� तद्वान� प्रवर्तत� �
अस्यैत� इत� तत्रार्थ� बहुर्वीहिर्� विद्यत� � २३� �gavā� śṣaṇatvena yadā ٲ屹 pravartate |
asyaitā iti tatrārthe bahurvīhirna vidyate || 237 ||237. When the owner (ٲ屹) is presented as the qualifier of the cows in the form “his they are� (ⲹ�), in that sense the compound is not taught.
Commentary
[When the sentence is “his are the motley-coloured cows� (ⲹ� ٰ 屹�) ‘his� comes as a qualifier (śṣaṇa) of the cows, as something subordinate. Such a sentence does not express the full meaning of the compound.]
