Sanskrit text, Unicode transliteration and English translation of verse 3.14.110:

वृत्तौ यो युक्तवद्भावो वरणादिषु शिष्यत
अभेदैकत्वसङ्खयायां गोदौ तत्र सिध्यत ११

vṛttau yo yuktavadbhāvo varaṇādiṣu śiṣyate |
abhedaikatvasaṅkhayāyā godau tatra na sidhyati || 110 ||

110. If the secondary constituent conveys the undifferentiated singular number, one cannot get the form godau 峾 according to the extension of gender and number (ܰٲ屹) of the stem ṇa etc. (P. 4. 2. 82.) to the meaning of the elided taddhita suffix (taught in P. 1. 2. 51.).

Commentary

[If the meaning of the secondary constituent is considered to include the undifferentiated singular number, a difficulty would arise where the gender and number of the stem are extended to the meaning of the taddhita suffix which is elided. For example, P. 4. 2. 82 says that the taddhita suffix expressive of a ٳܰٳ󾱰첹 meaning except that of country of residence is elided after ṇa etc. and P. 1. 2. 51. extends the gender and number of the stem to the meaning of the elided suffix. How can the number be extended if the secondary word in the ṛtپ is to convey abhedaikatva? If it cannot be extended, we cannot get the form godau 峾. Here in godau, goda is the secondary constituent of the taddhita ṛtپ. Before it entered the ṛtپ, its number was the dual and it has been extended. That is why we get the form godau as a taddhita derivative.]
