Text 8.7
अथ गु-भेदम आह,
atha guṇa-bhedam āha,
Now he mentions the varieties of ṇa,
ܰⲹuja-prasādākhyās trayas te na punar daśa ||8.68ab||
There are three ṇa, called ܰⲹ (sweetness, melting), ojas (vigor), and 岹 (clarity), and not ten (8.12).
Commentary:
Bharata Muni stated ten ṇa. Bhāmaha only accepted three of them. 峾Բ kept the names of Bharata muni’s ṇa and changed some definitions. ĀԲԻ岹Բ followed Bhāmaha. From here to text 8.20, Mammaṭa perfects ĀԲԻ岹Բ’s methodology in this regard also by repudiating 峾Բ’s manner of categorizing the ṇa. The particulars of ܰⲹ, ojas and 岹 are mentioned afterward (8.20-26).
