Explanatory notes by Ganganath Jha
The first half of this verse is quoted in 惭颈迟腻办峁惫腻 (2.136), which remarks that this only means that the king shall not take the 叠谤腻丑尘补峁嘺鈥檚 property, and not that even a son may not inherit the 叠谤腻丑尘补峁嘺鈥檚 property;鈥攁gain, to the effect that no part of the 叠谤腻丑尘补峁嘺鈥檚 estate shall be an escheat to the king.
It is quoted in 惭补诲补苍补辫腻谤颈箩腻迟补 (p. 675), to the effect that the property of the 碍峁迟谤颈测补 caste, in the absence of legal heirs, shall go to the king, and not to the 叠谤腻丑尘补峁嘺;鈥攊n 痴颈惫腻诲补谤补迟苍腻办补谤补 (p. 597);鈥攊n 笔补谤腻艣补谤补尘腻诲丑补惫补 (Vyavah膩ra, p. 355) to the effect that on the failure of legal heirs, the 叠谤腻丑尘补峁嘺鈥檚 property shall never go to the king, while that of the other castes shall go to the king;鈥攊n 顿腻测补办谤补尘补蝉补峁単谤补丑补 (p. 12);鈥攊n 狈峁泂颈峁僪补辫谤补蝉腻诲补 (Vyavah膩ra, p. 41a);鈥攁nd by J墨m奴tav膩hana (顿腻测补产丑腻驳补, p. 338).
