dharm膩rtha峁� caiva viprebhyo dady膩d bhog膩n dhan膩ni ca || 79 ||The King shall offer various sacrifices at which large sacrificial fees are paid; and for the purpose of acquiring merit, he shall provide for Br膩hma峁嘺s luxuries and riches.鈥�(79)
Medh膩tithi鈥檚 commentary (manubh膩峁a):
鈥�At which large sacrificial fees are paid鈥欌赌�i.e., the 笔补耻峁囜笉补谤墨办补 and other elaborate sacrifices.
鈥�Luxuries and riches鈥�.鈥擟lothes, scents, unguents, and rich food constitute the 鈥榣uxuries鈥�; and 鈥�riches鈥� consist in silver and gold.
Some people hold that these gifts are obligatory, and not voluntary. This is what is meant by the assertion that this is 鈥榝or the purpose of acquiring merit鈥�.鈥�(79).
