谤补办峁Ｄ佱箖si vipralumpanti 艣r膩ddham腻谤补办峁varjitam || 204 ||One should first engage the Br膩hma峁嘺 in honour of the gods, as a protection to these (offerings to) Pit峁泂; for the 搁腻办峁蝉补蝉 take away the 艣r膩ddha that is devoid of protection.鈥�(204)
Medh膩tithi鈥檚 commentary (尘补苍耻产丑腻峁补):
鈥�膧谤补办峁鈥� is the same as 鈥�谤补办峁Ｄ�;鈥� and that which has reached that is called 鈥�腻谤补办峁产丑奴迟补尘;鈥� i.e., that which serves the purpose of protecting.
Or, the term 鈥�产丑奴迟补尘鈥� may be taken as connoting similitude; in which case, the meaning is鈥斺赌榳hich is, as it were, a protection.鈥�
Because it is so, therefore 鈥�one should first engage鈥欌赌攊苍惫颈迟别鈥斺赌�the Br膩hma峁嘺 in honour of the gods鈥欌�� and make him sit upon a proper seat.
The rest of the verse is a purely laudatory description.
鈥�搁腻办峁蝉补蝉;鈥欌�攃ertain invisible beings, described in 滨迟颈丑腻蝉补蝉鈥斺赌�take away鈥欌�攖he 艢r膩ddha鈥攆rom the Pit峁泂.
鈥淲ho are the gods, in honour of whom the Br膩hma峁嘺 is to be invited?鈥�
In the 骋峁沨测补蝉奴迟谤补, we find the mantra鈥斺赌榃e invite the 痴颈艣惫别诲别惫补蝉, &c.鈥欌�攁s the one to be used; from which it follows that the 痴颈艣惫别诲别惫补蝉 are the gods. In the 笔耻谤腻峁嘺蝉 also it is said鈥斺赌楾he 艢谤耻迟颈 says that it is 痴颈艣惫别诲别惫补蝉.鈥欌赌�(204)

This verse is quoted in 础辫补谤腻谤办补 (p. 476), which explains 鈥�腻谤补办峁鈥� as equivalent to 鈥�谤补办峁峁嘺鈥�;鈥攊苍 骋补诲腻诲丑补谤补辫补诲诲丑补迟颈 (K膩la, p. 426), which explains 鈥�腻谤补办峁产丑奴迟补尘,鈥� as some little (not complete) safeguard;鈥攁nd in 艢谤腻诲诲丑补办谤颈测腻办补耻尘耻诲墨 (p. 54) as indicating the importance of Daiva 艢r膩ddha.
