Even behind the Teacher鈥檚 back, he should not pronounce his mere name; nor should he mimic his gait, speech or deportment.鈥�(199)

 

Medh膩tithi鈥檚 commentary (尘补苍耻产丑腻峁�y补):

鈥�He should not pronounce鈥欌赌攕hould not utter鈥斺��the teacher鈥檚 name.鈥�

鈥�Mere鈥欌赌�i.e., bereft of such honorific titles as 鈥�鲍辫腻诲丑测腻测补,鈥� 鈥�膧肠腻谤测补,鈥� 鈥�叠丑补峁�峁�补鈥� and the like;鈥斺��even behind his back.鈥�

鈥�Nor should he mimic鈥欌赌攕hould not imitate him, like an actor;鈥斺��gait'鈥�(saying) 鈥榯hus does my teacher walk鈥�;鈥斺��speech鈥欌赌�i,e., swiftly, slowly, at a medium pace and so forth;鈥斺��deportment鈥欌赌斺�榯hus he eats,鈥� 鈥榯hus he hinds his turban,鈥� 鈥榯hus he roams about,鈥� and so forth.

What is prohibited here is imitating the teacher in a joking spirit.鈥�(199)

鈥�Kevalam鈥欌赌擲uch titles are always to be added as 鈥�鲍辫腻诲丑测腻测补鈥� or 鈥�叠丑补峁�峁�补鈥� or 鈥�膧肠腻谤测补鈥� (Medh膩tithi),鈥斺��腻肠腻谤测补鈥� (Kull奴ka),鈥斺��肠补谤补峁嘺鈥� (N膩r膩ya峁嘺).

This verse is quoted in 痴墨谤补尘颈迟谤辞诲补测补 (Sa峁僺k膩ra, p. 492) in support of the view that whenever the teacher鈥檚 name has got to he pronounced, it should he accompanied with such honorific titles as 鈥�耻辫腻诲丑测腻测补鈥� and the like;鈥攁lso in 惭补诲补苍补辫腻谤颈箩腻迟补 (p. 1 06);鈥攊n 础辫补谤腻谤办补 (p. 56);鈥攊n 厂补峁僺办腻谤补尘补测奴办丑补 (p. 42), which says that the name should not be uttered by itself (kevalam), it should always he accompanied by some such title as 鈥�耻辫腻诲丑测腻测补鈥� and the like;鈥攁nd in 厂尘峁泃颈肠补苍诲谤颈办腻 (Sa峁僺k膩ra, p. 121).
