The 狈腻测补办补蝉 of Vellore, the Wodeyars of Mysore and the viceroys from Penuko峁囜笉a, 艢谤墨谤补峁単补尘 and Chandragiri also fostered art. The patron of the famous scholar-philosopher-polymath, Appayya D墨k峁�ita, Chinnabomma 狈腻测补办补 and his son Li峁単ama 狈腻测补办补, have given the world such famous monuments as the exquisitely carved Jalaka峁囜弓he艣vara temple at Vellore and the M膩rgasah膩ye艣vara temple at Virinchipuram [Viri帽cipura].

The paintings from the temple at T膩岣峱atri, the later murals from 碍腻帽肠墨辫耻谤补尘 [Kanchipuram] area, the miniature paintings from the 膧苍诲丑谤补 and Tamil districts, like the Coronation of 驰耻诲丑颈峁ａ弓丑颈谤补 and the Yamapa峁璦 scene from Cuddapah [Kadapa], and the long series of 搁腻尘腻测补峁嘺 episodes, with explanatory labels, as is usual in such paintings, both in murals and miniatures, are all typical examples of this phase.

This plate is contained in the book 鈥淰ijayanagara Paintings鈥�, a valuable aid to the understanding of Indian iconography (also known as 艣颈濒辫补艣腻蝉迟谤补). The Vijayanagara empire was established in 1335 by Harihara, Harihara, Ka峁僷a and Bukka (sons of Sa峁単ama) and grew to be a dominant power in the South. Painting has been considered in the Citras奴tra of the Vi峁ａ箛udharmottara, the early standard text on painting, as the premier art.
