Son of Mahasagra, who was the king of Uttaramadhura.

Upasagaras elder brother was Sagara, and when their father died, Upasagara became his brothers viceroy. Having been suspected of an intrigue in the kings zenana, he fled to the court of Upakamsa in Asitanjano. There he fell in love with Devagabbha, and when she was with child he married her and they lived in Govadhamana.

Their children were the notorious Andhakavenhu dasaputta.

貹岵 (उपसागर) is the name of a Nāga mentioned as attending the teachings in the 6th century Mañjuśrīmūlakalpa: one of the largest Kriyā Tantras devoted to Mañjuśrī (the Bodhisattva of wisdom) representing an encyclopedia of knowledge primarily concerned with ritualistic elements in Buddhism. The teachings in this text originate from Mañjuśrī and were taught to and by Buddha Śākyamuni in the presence of a large audience (including 貹岵).
