: Google Books: Obtaining Grace: Locating the Origins of a Tamil Saiva PreceptThe Tamil 艢aiva Siddh膩ntins; a group of profilic theologians who wrote fourteen principal treatises on the nature of 艢iva and of the osul beginning in the 12th century CE. The Tamil Siddh膩ntins decreased the role of ritual that was central in Kashmiri 艢aivism, claiming proper knowledge was sufficient to achieve liberation.
The Tamil Sidd膩ntins also considered the 艢aiva 苍腻测补峁尘腻谤 (poet-saints) as members of their Tamil 艢aiva lineage; and in doing so, they accepted that devotion, too, was sufficient for liberation (in combination with proper knowledge of course).
