Tirunelveli is one of the eighteen Tirupathis of the Pandya land. Some of the other names of the sthala are Venu Vanam, Nelveli, Nellur, Saliveli, Salivadi, Salinagar, Brahmā Vṛdhapuram and Tārukāvanam.
