Source: Wisdom Library: Āyurveda and botanyūٰᲹīⲹ (मूत्रविरजनी�) is the Sanskrit name for a group of medicinal plants, classified as “altering the colour of the urine�, and originally composed by Caraka in his Carakasaṃhitā sūtrasthāna IV. The name is derived from the words ūٰ, translating to “urine�, and Ჹīⲹ, referring to �to modify or improve the color�. It is a technical term used throughout Āyurveda. Examples of plants pertaining to this category include Padma (Nelumbium speciosum), Utpala (Nymphaea stellata, blue), Nalina (Nymphaea, white), Kumuda (Nymphaea, red), Saugandhika (Nymphaea, lotus), Puṇḍarīka (Nelumbium sp.) and Śatapatra (Nelumbium sp.). The collection of herbs named ūٰᲹīⲹ is one of the fifty Mahākaṣāya.
