: Shodhganga: Elements of Art and Architecture in the Trtiyakhanda of the Visnudharmottarapurana (gita)Ѳṣmṇa (महालक्ष्मण) refers to one of the Forty-nine kinds of Tānas (in Indian music), according to the Viṣṇudharmottarapurāṇa, an ancient Sanskrit text which (being encyclopedic in nature) deals with a variety of cultural topics such as arts, architecture, music, grammar and astronomy.—Tāna refers to “that which spreads� (being dependent on ū), according to the Nāṭyaśāstra. In the Viṣṇudharmottarapurāṇa, only forty nine kinds of Բ are accepted under three grāmas viz., madhyama, ṣaḍj and Ի. The Իgrāma contains twenty Բ [e.g., ṣmṇa].
