Kattiya (कत्तिय) is the name of an ancient merchant mentioned in the վ󲹳īٳ󲹰첹貹 by Jinaprabhasūri (13th century A.D.): an ancient text devoted to various Jaina holy places (īٳ󲹲).—Accordingly, “In this city (i.e., Hatthiṇāura), the merchant Gaṃgadatta, master (of a fortune) of seven ṭi gold, renounced the world in the presence of Lord Muṇisuvvaya. The merchant Kattiya, soul of Sohammiṃda (Śakra), (did the same) with a thousand other merchants, out of disgust at having had to serve a monk, under the constraint of the king (Jiyasattu).�.—cf. پ첹.
