: Wisdom Library: India HistoryThe Five Symbols of Sikhism signify the assumption of the offices of the three spheres (i.e., R膩jya, Sa峁僴y膩sa, G峁沨astha), by an 鈥渙rdered renunciation of renunciation鈥�, and not as opposed to one another.
The Five Symbols of Sikhism are:
- the 办脓艣 (办别艣补) (unshorn hair) associated with Sa峁僴y膩sa-Yoga,
- 办补峁単补 (办补峁卥补迟补) (comb) associated with Sa峁僴y膩sa-Yoga,
- the kachh (kaccha) (tailored loin garment) associated with G峁沨astha-Yoga, and
- the kirpan (办峁沺腻峁嘺) (sword) associated with R膩jya-Yoga,
- 办补峁沘 (办腻谤腻[?]) (band of ritual constraint) associated with R膩jya-Yoga.
These five symbols of Sikhism may be fruitfully compared with the eight 腻惫补谤峁嘺蝉 (鈥渟heaths鈥�) of the V墨ra艣aiva, which form four pairs of symbols..
