The Maraṭhas collected it, and divided it as follows. One-fourth, or twenty-five per cent., was appropriated by the head of the Maraṭha state, and was called Ჹī; from the remainder, termed ō, there was deducted a sum equal to six per cent. (ōٰ) of the whole cautha, and this was assigned to the pantasaciva. The remainder, equal to sixty-nine per cent. of the cautha, termed ainamō- kāsā, was partitioned, on certain conditions, among the Sirdars. In some districts there was, besides the ōٰ a sum equal to three per cent. on the whole cautha deducted from the ō, and named ḍaṇḍ. Very numerous subdivisions of the cautha have since been made.
