Essay name: Tilakamanjari of Dhanapala (study)

This is an English study of the Tilakamanjari of Dhanapala, a Sanskrit poem written in the 11th century. Technically, the Tilaka-manjari is classified as a Gadyakavya (“prose-romance�). The author, Dhanapala was a court poet to the Paramara king Munja, who ruled the Kingdom of Malwa in ancient west-central India.

] The reference is rather to the small strings of
the rural garment called (coraṇ�". Even now these strings
are called 'Kasa' and are meant for buttoning up the
flaps of the garment.

] In the phrase कुषितकाल -
[kuṣitakāla -
] the word कालयवन

omitted by the author of the Tippanaka in his explanation

: सानथाक्नवा� करना� नि� [sānathāknavāla karanā� ni� ] has been explained in
the Parāgavivrti as कालः स्वामश्व यो जबनकाल� मबनारि� हर�-

The reference is rather to a demon called
कालयवन

] whom Kṛṣṇa got killed through Mucakunda. Thus
