Essay name: Tilakamanjari of Dhanapala (study)

This is an English study of the Tilakamanjari of Dhanapala, a Sanskrit poem written in the 11th century. Technically, the Tilaka-manjari is classified as a Gadyakavya (鈥減rose-romance鈥�). The author, Dhanapala was a court poet to the Paramara king Munja, who ruled the Kingdom of Malwa in ancient west-central India.

of Dhananjaya twice quotes a verse the authorship of
which he ascribes in one place to V膩kpatir膩ja and in the

three different stanzas as composed by Utpalar膩ja in his
S煤v峁泃titilaka, Kavika峁囜弓h膩bharana and Aucityavicaracarc膩.
艢r墨dharad膩sa, the author of the Saduktikar峁嚹乵峁泃a a Sanskrit
anthology, quotes several verses of Mu帽ja. Ujjayini
attracted the best talents from Kanoj, K膩艣墨 and other
