Structural Temples of the Caulukyan Period 189 Laxmitilaka Upadhy膩ya, 258 the temple dedicated to Mahavira
at Bhimapalli (Bhiladia) was constructed in V. S. 1317 (A. D.
1261). Abhayatilaka Ga峁噄 259 describes this temple as Mandalika
Vih膩ra, and says that it was restored by one Bhuvanpala 艢rest岣�i.
Before restoration, the temple existed in V. S. 1218 (A. D. 1162)
as it is referred to by Raya峁嘺艣膩. 260 None of the temples exists
in its original form.
The 膧din膩tha temple at Athapoknara* is a Siva shrine. The
present structure is new but a good deal of the material of
which it is made is evidently old. An inscription of Vi艣aladeva
is placed in a small modern shrine opposite to it. 261
Ra峁嘺ka Samantasinha in the time of Visaladeva in V. S. 1319
(A. D. 1262) gave some grants for the maintenance of the
temples of Ball膩la-N膩r膩ya峁嘺 and R奴pa-N膩r膩ya峁嘺 262 in Vardh
pathaka. These temples cannot be traced; now. These temples,
unless they be of Vis峁噓 under his local names, seem to be of
Surya, or of a composite aspect of Surya and Vi峁ａ箛u. Even now
there are some temples in Gujarat which are called by the
name of S奴峁泍a-n膩r膩ya峁嘺, the cult image being a combination
of S眉rya and Visnu. 263
From the Kantela (Dist Junagadh.) inscription of Arjundeva's
reign we learn that one S盲mantasinha erected an image of
Visnu called Salak峁�a-N膩r膩ya峁嘺 (in V. S. 1320) in the temple
of Laksmi-n膩r膩ya峁嘺 to increase the merit of his dead brother
