5. The Padmanabha-vijaya by Subrahmanya
Subrahmanya, a poet in the court of Ramavarma has written a Mahakavya named Padmanabha vijaya[1] in eight cantos. We do not know much about the author, except that he was the son of a distinguished poet named Ramalinga Suri by Kokilamba. The kavya is meant to describe the legend of Sripadmanabha. At the same time it bears allusions to the Maharaja as well. At the end of the work he gives two verses on Rama Varma the first of which is too general in contents.
The second verse as follows:
膩candrat膩rakamaya峁� bhuvi va帽cib膩l膩
艣谤墨谤腻尘补惫补谤尘补办耻濒补艣别办丑补谤补产丑奴尘颈辫腻濒补岣�
艣r墨padman膩bhak峁沺ay膩 saha 产丑腻驳颈苍别测补岣�
艣r墨man m峁沰a峁囜笉usutavat jayetu sthir膩yu岣� ||
Ullur points out that the omission in mentioning Ramavarma鈥檚 brother is conclusive for fixing the date of the poem as posterior to the death of Makayiram Tirunal in 966 M.E. The 产丑腻驳颈苍别测补 mentioned here may be well identified with Avittam Tirunal Bala Rama Varma who became king after Rama Varma[2].
