Shoulder and Arm Ornaments (Bhujabhushana) (Introduction)
Ornaments adorning the shoulder and arm can be grouped under four categories:
- Shoulder ornaments,
- Armlets,
- Bracelets,
- Rings.
Shoulder ornaments are rarely seen in this period. Wherea the keyura or angada adorn the upper arm, the bangles (valayas or kankanas) and the wristlets (prakoshtha valayas) adorn the wrists and forearms. However, in sculptural art of this period the exact difference between a valaya and prakoshtha-valaya is difficult to ascertain. So both the types are treated together under bracelets.
