Aripparai is a drum, referred, which was used by farmers, to drive
away pigeons.
கழ� சுற்றி� விளை கழனி,
அரிபறையாற் புள் ளோப்புந்து

Paripāṭal, another work under the Eṭṭutokai, speaks of the seven
notes (pālai ēlu), the strings (narampu), the flute (kulal) and the drum
(mulavu) accompanying the dance (ātal) of the womenfolk.
புரி நரம்பு இன்கொளைப� புகல� பாலை ஏழும�
எழ� உப� புணர� யாழும், இசையும�,கூ�,
குழல� அளந்து நிற்�; முழவ� எழுந்த� ஆர்ப்ப;

Further, the work mentions the concept of mud smearing on the
drum (man kaṇai mulavu). It also refers the finesse in the instruments
