The Nāradīya Sikṣ� also gives the explanation for the word 'Ṣadja'
as follows:
अत्र नारदाद्य� नामनिर्वचनमकार्षुः नासा� कण्ठमुरस्ताल� जिह्वा� दन्तांश्�
संश्रितः � षड्भ्यस्तज्जायते यस्मात्तस्मात् षड्ज इत्याद� �
[atra nāradādyā nāmanirvacanamakārṣu� nāsā� kaṇṭhamurastālu jihvā� dantāṃśca
saṃśrita� | ṣaḍbhyastajjāyate yasmāttasmāt ṣaḍja ityādi |

Here seers like Nārada etc, while explaining the nomenclature,
elucidate the word 'Ṣadja' as that which is born out of six modes such as
nose, throat, chest, palatal, tongue and teeth.
Origin of Nāda is mentioned in Pāṇiniya Sikṣ�. When Atman
wants to speak, it stirs up the mental faculty, which in turn stirs the
'anala' (fire) in the body. And the mind stimulated by Agni rises up and
passes through the heart, throat, head palate, teeth, nose, lips and jaws,
and the Nāda is produced.
आकाश वायु प्रभवः शरीरतात� समुच्चरन� वक्त्रमुपैति नादः �
स्थानान्तरेष� प्रविभज्यमान� वर्णत्वमागच्छत� यः � शब्द� �
[ākāśa vāyu prabhava� śarīratāt samuccaran vaktramupaiti nāda� ||
sthānāntareṣu pravibhajyamāno varṇatvamāgacchati ya� sa śabda� ||

Pāṇiniya Sikṣ� sūtrapāṭha 1.
The Pāṇiniya Sikṣ� also describes the production of sound
springing out from the naval, its mode of production and place of
pronunciation.
तत्र नाभिप्रदेशात� प्रयत्नप्रेरित� प्राणो ना� वायुरूर्ध्वमाक्रामन्नु� - आदीना�
स्थानानामन्यतमस्मिन् स्थाने प्रयत्ने� विधार्यत� �
स्थानमिद� करणमिद� प्रयत्� एष द्विधाऽनिल� �
स्थानं पीडयति, वृत्तिकारः प्रक्र� एषोऽ� नाभितलात� �
[tatra nābhipradeśāt prayatnaprerita� prāṇo nāma vāyurūrdhvamākrāmannura - ādīnā�
sthānānāmanyatamasmin sthāne prayatnena vidhāryate |
sthānamida� karaṇamida� prayatna eṣa dvidhā'nila� |

Pāṇiniya Sikṣ� sūtrapāṭha 4.
This prāṇa (life-force) then, springs out upwards from the navel
region through the various modes and parts of speech, which are called
sthānas. This effort is two fold such as sthāna and karaṇa. Sthāna is the
place of production and karana is the part of the body that is involved in
the sound production.
