- To each hungering sense, from eye to touch,
- Other ills are by other drugs cured,
- Have the Heavens a greater joy to give
- Cool when near, scorching when far away,
- Rich in the yield of delights are her arms,
- Her arms the quintessence of nectar bear,
- Soul-touching is the joy of requited love,
- Sweeter than other delights of heaven or earth,
- The sulk, the protest, and the final embrace,
- Each new embrace yields new delights,
Love is a feast of delight rare.
But Love is cured by Love itself.
Than sleep in the arms of the Beloved?
Whence got she this strange fire?
Rich with the joy of each fabled dream.
With each new embrace Life comes to me anew.
Like wealth enjoyed after every debt is paid.
Is uninterrupted company to the loving pair.
Are but stages in Love's daily rush.
As old poems when read and re-read anew.
