‘My Heart has put forth Flowers

K. Krishna Kumar

My heart has put forth flowers
Blessed with the grace of scent and colour;
They have fiery petals of gold
That sparkle with pure radiance.
Their fragrance longs to travel on high
Beyond the range of their affluence,
To greet the distant light of their longing
Still hidden in the depths of future.
In joy and pain they bloom and fold
Their petals to the tune of my panting heart;
Their dreamy life is a living beauty
Which awaits a purpose and a fulfillment.
I hide my flowers from outward view
And keep them in bloom ever fresh and sweet;
They have a message of their own
Which the world may never know!

(Translated from his original KANNADA poem by the author)
