Agni Samhita. This is another spurious revelation regarding the divinity of Chaitanya, alias Gauranga, alias Gaurachandra. Prithivi, the earth personified, oppressed by the sins of mankind, with tearful eyes besought Brahma, the lotus-born, to devise a remedy, and that divinity, says the Samhita, pacified the weeping lady by assuring her that relief was at hand, as the Divine Spirit would ere long appear incarnate on earth to afford a sovereign specific for the malady of sin. In reply to further enquiries, he foretold the whole history of the life of Chaitanya. The work, I suspect, was not well received even by the Vaishnavas, for it is rarely quoted. The MS. has 24 chapters, but the absence of the word samapta in the colophon, induces me to think that the work in its entirety comprised some more chapters.
