Viraja
In the Vijaya commentary on the Śrīmadbhagavata the
name is written as Paingi instead of Paija or Paila. Nothing is
known about these Sakhās.
According to the Puranic tradition Baṣkala is mentioned as
the teacher of the three other students (Baṣkala and his four other
students are already mentioned). The variation of this
name is also Baṣkali. According to the Śrīmadbhāgavata
Baṣkali collected all Khilas from all the Sakhās and made
a Valakhilya-Samhita. This Samhitā was entrusted to Bala,
Nirbhajya and Kāsāra. The Viṣṇu-Purāṇa tells us that Baṣkala
composed another three Samhitas and his three pupils were
Kālāyani, Gārgya and Kathājava. The Vayu-Purana tells that
Baṣkali, the Bhāradvāja, taught his three Samhitās to three
pupils who were sages (Mahātmānah) and qualified persons
(Gunānvitas). Their names were Nandāyanīya, Pannagāri and
Arjava. Similar data are seen in the Brahmanda-Purana in
whose opinion these three pupils are Apanipa, Pannagari and
Arjava.

the Brhaspati-Samhita of the Garuda purāna in the Annals of the
Bhandarkar Or. Res. Institue (ABORI XXXVII, pp 58-110) this
author came to the conclusion that the Brhaspati-Samhita of the
Garuda-parāna (GP) is almost identical with Cānakya's aphorisms,
the Canakya rajanīti śāstra version (CR). He was able to prove
that seventy per cent of the Brhaspati-Samhita maxims of the
Garuda purām are identical with CR. This study was based
on three texts of CR, viz. the text of the Cannkya-raja-nitis
śāstram ed. by Pt. īśvarn Chandra Sastrī (Calcutta Or. Series,
No. 2) (CRC), the MS. Sansk. f. 15 in the Bodleion Library
