Summary: This essay studies the Vaisesika Doctrines in the Nyaya Works.鈥擝oth part of the system of Indian philosophy, Nyaya and Vaisesika are accepted to be friendly to each other. Many standpoints are advocated by both systems. For example, both Nyaya and Vaisesika strongly argue that all the three terms (viz., buddhi, upalabdhi and jnana) are synonymous, meaning knowledge or cognition itself.
Besides philosophy, Nyaya deals with the science and techniques of debate. The Nyayasutra of Gautama is the earliest extant work of the Nyaya system. Many sutras deals with the nature of the self.
Vaisesika is prominently based on logic and generally considered earlier than the Nyaya. According to the Vaisesika, the origin of the world begins with the conjunction of atoms. The Vaisesikasutra of Kanada is the earliest and the basic text of the system.
