viz. (1) arambha
(2) ghata, (3) parichaya and (4) nishpatti.
The yogi who has attained the arambha stage, acquires a
lusturous body, a brilliant mindly a natural fregrance,
freedom from disease, fullness of heart with joy. As his
brahma-granthi is pierced, a blissfull feeling is generaled
in him and a peculiar centrally aroused tinkling sound,
coming from inside the body is heard by him. 1 In the
ghata stage, his knowledge increases and becomes godlike.
And then, on account of his vishnu-granthi being pierced,
he bears the various sounds of a kelle drum being beaten
in atisunya (near the naso-pharyngeal cavity) he acquires
all the siddhi ( acomplishments). Then rising above the
bliss experienced by Chitta, Sahajananda ( the state of
Supreme Bliss) is attained by the yogi. After this there
is freedom from all imbalances of humours, pains, old age,
disease, hunger and sleep (HYP IV: 74,75). In the nispathi
stage, as the rudra-granthi is pierced, he hears the sound
of musical notes of a well-tuned vina. This state is
called Raja-yoga. In this state, the yogi feels, he has
the power of creating and destroying the whole universe
like the God (HYP IV,76,77).
1. Granthi here means a sort of resistance that is felt as
the prana rises along the susumna such resistance is
felt at anahata chakra at the level of the heart, where
it is called brahma granthi; at visuddha chakra at the
level of the eye-brow where it is called rudga-granthi
(Hatha-pradipika,p.158).
