Such abhisekas are stated to be highly beneficial
if performed on the vardhavanti day (birth day) of a king
which is considered potent to countermand the evil effects
of omens etc. (7-11).
B. Coronation at Various occasions (Naimittika)
As mentioned earlier, Abhiseka is primarily of two
types, viz. a. the general, which a prince performs
on assuming office of the state and
b. the occasional,
which is performed by a king at the onset of certain
auspicious and inauspicious occasions. The auspicious
occasions may include king's birth-day celebrations
and other sacraments while the inauspicious ones comprise
of exigencies like appearance of killer diseases like
mahamari (epidemics), masuri (small pox) in the kingdom,
sighting of bad omens or when king's personal stars come
under malevolent planets (darunagraha), when there is
grahakuta (an ominous juxtaposition of planets) on king's
stars or when in six signs like tula (libra) etc. comes
a chance wherein a group of planets are arranged in the
pattern of a chain (malikakara) or in other six signs
like me sa, Yrsa etc. there's dasachidra (aspecting of
the 8th lunar mansion), or when the king's stars are
