Analysis of Kāmala (Wife of ṇḍ)
The dramatist very cleverly depicts this character 峾 only through the dialogues of her personal attendants, in the interlude of second Act.
Chardi, maid of 峾 reports, that 峾 in accordance with her role as minster ṇḍ’s wife, has sent the five , friends of to help him; she has also planned to fetch the wives of to her palace (II.7):
āsyātyahitakarmaṇo vyapagame kāsena bhartrā ṃd ī tu tatpriyasakhān saṃpreṣayantī |
ittha śvāsavilāsinīrupagatā paṣcāpi hikkāmukhīkṛtya drāgupasāntvya pāṇḍudayitā mā prāhiṇot kāmalā ||
Thus the play-wright depicts the character of 峾 as a very understanding and able wife of ṇḍ (avoiding her direct participation).
