This page relates ‘diseases of the Muladhara� of the study on the Jivanandana (in English) which is a dramatic play written by Anadaraya Makhin in the 18th century. The Jivanandana praises the excellence of Advaita Vedanta, Ayurveda (medical science) and Dramatic literature as the triple agency for obtaining everlasting bliss.
The diseases of the Mulādhāra
(i) The batch of diseases that occupy the base position of the body ū completely are the հṇa (wounds) of eight types called Bhagandaras and six kind of Guḍakīlās.
(ii) Diseases born out of Kapha defect which are ten in numbers; six types of Pitta-defect and four types of ٲ-defect totalling twenty, are considered as arising out of ۲ṣm; they also attack the same place (VI.63/64; p.378):
vraṇarājaputrā āṣṭavidhā bhagandarā� |... ṣaḍv gudakīlā� mūlādhiṣṭhāna� ābhivyāpnuvanti |... kaphasaṃbhavā 岹ś � pittasaṃbhavai� ṣaḍbhirvātasaṃbhavai� caturbhiśca saha viṃśatisaṃkhyākā yakṣmarājaputrā� |
(iii) Thirteen diseases known as ūٰٲ attack the urinary track. ٲ, Pitta, Kapha, ԲԾٲ, ṣaٲ, Śܰ, Vidvighāta, four types of ś and Krcchra form this group (VI.63/64; p.378-79):
āparatra ca trayo岹ś mūtrāghātā� prasajjante | etānyapi ca ٲ-辱ٳٲ-kapha-sannipāta-kṣata-śukra-viḍi्vaghātāśmarīkṛcchrāṇītyaṣṭau kṛcchrāṇi catasṛbhiraśmarībhi� saha sajjībhavanti |
(iv) Eight types of Śܱ along with Gulma attack the stomach area (VI.63/64; p.379):
eṣa gulmo'pi śūlamavalambya bijṛmbhate |
tathāṣṭavidhaśūlāśca nirundhanti |
