Diseases related to Sapta-dhātus and their cure
Rasa, rakta, ṃs, medas, asthi, majja, and śܰ, are the Sapta dhātus[1].
(i) Diseases related to Rasa are nothing but those related to Śṣm (Vata, Pita and Kapha) says 岵ṭa:
raso'pi śleṣmavat |
When Rasa increases, diseases due to ٲ and also diseases relating to blood will arise and when on decrease, many other diseases like ܰṣy, ś and śṣa would be created.[2]
䲹Ի tablets are capable of removing all these three faults and the diseases born out of these defects.[3] (VI.50/51; p.358):
śleṣmaprabhṛtīn saputrāṃścandraprabhā praharati |
Blood (Rakta) -oriented diseases like Visarpa, ʱī and others are cured by the medicine made of ṛt, Guggulu and ṇa (VI.50/51; p.359):
raktaputrāṇāṃ visarpa-plīhaprabhṛtīnām āmṛtāguggulu-lavaṇapaṣcakādaya� prahartāra� |
ṃs (flesh) concerned diseases can be controlled by the oil-based medicines like Śākhotaka (VI.50/51; p.359):
ṃsputrāṇāṃ śākhoṭakatailaprabhṛtaya� |
Medas and its groups of diseases can be cured by Kaphakesarī and other related medicines (VI.50/51; p.359):
岹� putrāṇāṃ kaphakesariprabhṛtaya� |
Among the diseases of ٲ, Pitta and Kapha, ٲ alone nourishes and also dries the ٳٳܲ of rasa, rakta and ṃs.[4] Katuka and other medicines are for the improvement of muscles.[5]
From the ṭu juice flesh grows; from the ṣҲ blood grows; from salt bone grows; from the sour, marrow grows; from sweet, śܰ grows and from tikta (astringent) medas grows (VI.50/51; p.361):
첹ṭu屹ٱ ṃs� 첹ṣ峦ṇiٲ� � |
lavaṇādvardhate hyasthi tvamlāt pravardhate ||
ܰ屹ٱ śܰ� tiknānmeda� pravardhate ||
