12. The Talas used in Kishore-chandrananda-champu
Different opinions are found regarding the number of talas. Serially their numbers are agreed with the eight types, nine types, and ten types. In the traditional Caupadi songs the Athatali, Triputa and the Jhula are frequently used. Again the 18types, 10types and 101types of upatalas are used in the 107 Odisi samkirtanas. Kavisurya followed the six talas which are Ekatali, 108 Triputa, Addatali, Athatali, Jhula and Khemata. But in Chatterji, S.K.'s edition we find five talas except the Addatali. He says that" Indian music is turn around by two opinions. One is the northern 'Bharata' system and another is the Sothern 'Hanumat' system". The Odisi chandas are under the impact of the Hanumat system. It also includes the Karnatakimela and Kishore-chandrananda-champu has attained more the publicity for this reason.
