Worship & worshipper Asanas or the Seat - 353 The goddess is offered worship in different forms such as a yantra,
cakra, meru, idol or to human substitutes. It is stated in the works of tantra
that the place of worship of the goddess is known as Yagamaṇḍapa and the
goddess should be placed on a seat known as a pitha. This pitha is made of
metals like gold, silver, copper, or a combination of the three. Wooden plank
is also used for making the seat, care should be taken that apart from the
wood of sandalwood and wood-apple, only the wood of any milk-tree be
used for the seat for the goddess. In the MLRK" the following asanas are
mentioned - - a Simhāsana, the Milk ocean seat and similarly the seat of a
yellow lotus.
Lamp -
Lamps form an indispensable part of the worship process. The
sādhaka is supposed to place lighted lamps on either side of the goddess.
Cow's ghee is the most recommended fuel for lighting the lamp apart from
that is the use of oil. The oil from sesame seeds is specified for the use of
worship of the goddess. The sädhaka is to light two lamps on either side of
the maṇḍapa of the goddess. On the right side of the goddess the ghee lamp
is lighted and on the left side of the goddess is the oil lamp. The wick to the
ghee lamp should be white in colour whereas the oil lamp should be red in
colour. Apart from these lamps some special lamps are mentioned in the
worship process which is to be offered to the goddess. The sädhaka should
