5. Resume (of third chapter)
The yogic thoughts can be seen from the vedic literature also. So, as a part of the vedas the ³Ü±è²¹²Ô¾±á¹£a»å²õ also elaborately reflect yoga in different manner. The ±«±è²¹²Ô¾±á¹£a»å²õ treat yoga as conscious internal research or an effort to attain true knowledge of reality. It emphasizes the meditation and concentration which reveal power. The word yoga first found technically in the °Õ²¹¾±³Ù³Ù¾±°ùÄ«²â´Ç±è²¹²Ô¾±á¹£a»å; and besides that °²¹á¹»·´Ç±è²¹²Ô¾±á¹£a»å and MaitrÄyaṇīyopaniá¹£ad also treat it as the same. Almost all the major ³Ü±è²¹²Ô¾±á¹£a»å²õ describe yoga to its possible extent. The ³Ü±è²¹²Ô¾±á¹£a»å commonly reflect yogic concepts like ²¹á¹£á¹Äåá¹…g²¹²õ, ÂáÄ«±¹²¹, Īś±¹²¹°ù²¹, ³¾´Ç°ìá¹£a etc..
Along with these ²¹á¹£á¹Äåá¹…g²¹²õ are enumerated elaborately in most of all major ³Ü±è²¹²Ô¾±á¹£a»å²õ. The ³Ü±è²¹²Ô¾±á¹£a»å²õ connect yamas and niyamas with the day to day life of the common people They pave the way for the ordinary people to adopt and practise the essential values like ²¹³ó¾±á¹ƒsÄå, satya, asteya, tapas, ²õ±¹Äå»å³ó²âÄå²â²¹ etc. throughout their lives. They enrich the people with an awareness of values and open the doors for them and lead them to the ways of self-realization. Among these ways the foremost is regarded as yoga. The ³Ü±è²¹²Ô¾±á¹£a»å²õ describe how to practise yoga systematically and how the yamas and niyamas are provided for this purpose. Through the gradual practice of ²¹³ó¾±á¹ƒsÄå onwards till
īś±¹²¹°ù²¹±è°ù²¹á¹‡i»å³óÄå²Ô²¹ one can make essential changes in his life. By practising yamas and niyamas one can remove his external »å´Çá¹£a²õ and make himself eligible for the ²õ²¹²µ³Üṇo±èÄå²õ²¹²Ô²¹. For ²õ²¹²µ³Üṇo±èÄå²õ²¹²Ô²¹ there are different methods and practices like ±è°ùÄåṇÄÂÒÄå³¾²¹ by which one can restrain his indriyas and acquire concentration. This concentration leads him to the attainment of ²õ²¹³¾Äå»å³ó¾± or realization. In this state one is lost hold his self and attains union with the ±Ê²¹°ù²¹³¾Äå³Ù³¾Äå or attains paramagati. Here the major ³Ü±è²¹²Ô¾±á¹£a»å²õ are provided like a guide that explains the systematic ways to become a yogi. They admit that yoga is a right way of knowledge to the attainment of realization. It underlines that no one can attain ³¾´Ç°ìá¹£a without the practice of yoga. However, yogic reflections have a great role in the later ³Ü±è²¹²Ô¾±á¹£a»å²õ rather than in the major ³Ü±è²¹²Ô¾±á¹£a»å²õ. These later ³Ü±è²¹²Ô¾±á¹£a»å²õ belong to a group of 20 minor ³Ü±è²¹²Ô¾±á¹£a»å²õ which enumerate yogic concepts elaborately; and they are called ³Û´Ç²µ´Ç±è²¹²Ô¾±á¹£a»å²õ. This group exhibits the yogic influence of the ³Ü±è²¹²Ô¾±á¹£a»å²õ greatly and it will be discussed in the following chapter.
