This page relates ‘Examples of Samanya Vipralabdha� of the study dealing with the Ashta-Nayikas—a classification of eight kinds of “Heroines� representing the eight emotional states (avastha) employed in the classical Indian dance and performing arts (otherwise known as Natya Shastra). These Ashtanayikas reflect the eight types of romantic relationships and have hence formed the expressive subject of many classical painting, poems and dramatic plays.

Examples of the 峾Բ վ character of woman heroine:
कपटवचनभाजा केनचिद्वारयोषा सकलरसिकगोष्ठीवञ्चिकावञ्चितासौ �
इत� विहसति रिङ्गद्भृङ्गविक्षिप्तचक्षु र्विकचकुसुमकान्तिच्छद्मन� केलिकुञ्जः �kapaṭavacanabhājā kenacidvārayoṣ� sakalarasikagoṣṭhīvañcikāvañcitāsau |
iti vihasati riṅgadbhṛṅgavikṣiptacakṣu rvikacakusumakānticchadmanā kelikuñja� ||[1]The courtesan, who was adept in deceiving her whole lot of lovers, was for once cheated by someone. The bower seems to have eyes like the bees and laughed at her with full blown flowers.
बहुतरधनदानच्छद्मना वारयोष� सविनयमनुनीता केलिकुञ्� जगाम �
अह�! गहनदुःखव्याकुल� वीक्ष्� शून्यं कलयत� परितप्ताङ्गारशृङ्गारशोभाम् �bahutaradhanadānacchadmanā vārayoṣ� savinayamanunītā kelikuñja jagāma |
ahaha! gahanaduḥkhavyākulā vīkṣya śūnya� kalayati paritaptāṅgāraśṛṅgāraśobhām ||[2]The courtesan went to the empty meeting place and was deeply saddened.
