- 146- UNITS OF MEASUREMENT The Vayu Purana and the Brahmanda Purana which give instructions about town planning also describe the various units of measurements of distance and their relation to one another. The measurements are Angula, Pradesa, Tala, Gokarna, Vitasti, Ratni, Hasta, Aisku, Dhamis, Danda, Nalikayuga, Gavyuti and Yojana. The Brahmanda Purana has described similar measurements
but it gives 10 Angulas for one Prädesa and 3 Hastas for one
Dhamus.
47 Both the Puranas are not clear about the measurements
namely Danda and Nalika-yuga.
