This page relates 鈥楩auna (9): Other Fauna鈥� of the study on the Amarakoshodghatana of Kshirasvamin (in English) which represents a commentary on the Amarakosha of Amarasimha. These ancient texts belong the Kosha or 鈥渓exicography鈥� category of Sanskrit literature which deals with the analysis and meaning of technical words from a variety of subjects, such as cosmology, anatomy, medicine, hygiene. The Amarakosa itself is one of the earliest of such text, dating from the 6th century A.D., while the Amarakoshodghatana is the earliest known commentary on that work.

碍峁Ｄ玶补蝉惫腻尘颈苍 points out that the 骋补耻岣峚 uses the palatal 鈥�艣补鈥� and pronounces the word as mu艣补l墨鈥�

He also remarks that the synonym 驳峁沨补驳辞诲丑颈办腻 mentioned in Amarako艣补 has a better reading as 驳峁沨补驳辞濒颈办腻 further stating that it is popular as ghar-goli鈥�

碍峁Ｄ玶补蝉惫腻尘颈苍 explains that a spider is also called 尘补谤办补峁璦 as it climbs up and down like a monkey鈥�

He also adds 箩腻濒颈办补 and 箩腻濒补办腻谤补 to denote a spider.

[Scorpion:]
碍峁Ｄ玶补蝉惫腻尘颈苍 explains the word 腻濒颈 to mean鈥搕he presence of misfortune and that the word is used in 闯测辞迟颈峁 texts as 补濒墨[1] 鈥�

The word 诲谤耻峁嘺, he says is spelt by some as 诲谤辞峁嘺 and remarks that this is a poisonous creature鈥�

碍峁Ｄ玶补蝉惫腻尘颈苍 gives the 诲别艣颈 words of the blackbee as 肠补帽肠补谤墨办补, bhasala, indindira, rolamba:
肠补帽肠补谤墨办补bhasalendindira鈥攔olamb膩 de艣y膩m ||
But it is interesting to note that these terms are found in Sanskrit Dictionaries[2] of present day.
(e) 笔耻迟迟颈办腻 (II. 5. 28, p. 130)鈥�

碍峁Ｄ玶补蝉惫腻尘颈苍 mentions that 辫耻迟迟颈办腻 is a variety of honeybee and quotes the text of Nimi which gives the varieties of honey collected from different bees鈥�
