Story of Dāśārṇa
An ancient country, famous in the ʳܰṇa.
General information.
This country had been divided into two, Eastern ٲśṇa and Western ٲśṇa. The modern Patna and the surrounding places comprised Eastern ٲśṇa and the places of Malva, the Western ٲśṇa. Some are of opinion that ٲśṇa comprises the South-East part of the Vindhya mountain. It is mentioned in 'ѱūٲ' that վ徱ś was the capital of ٲśṇa. The modern name of վ徱ś is Bhilsā.
Other information regarding ٲśṇa.
(1) Mention is made in Ѳٲ, Ādi Parva, Chapter 112, Stanza 25, that once ṇḍ brought the country of վ徱ś under subjugation.
(2) At another time īԲ conquered the country of ٲśṇa. (Ѳٲ, Parva, Chapter 29, Stanza 5).
(3) Nakula once conquered this country. (Ѳٲ Parva, Chapter 32, Stanza 7).
(4) King ܻ峾 ruled over the country of ٲśṇa. He had two daughters. ī, the king of Vidarbha married the first one and ī the king of Cedi married the second daughter. ٲⲹԳī was the daughter of ī. A daughter named ܲԲԻ was born to ī. (Ѳٲ Vana Parva, Chapter 69).
(5) Before the battle of ٲ, Hiraṇyavarmā was the King of ٲśṇa. Śṇḍī the daughter of Drupada went in the guise of a male and married the daughter of Hiraṇyavarmā. The king of ٲśṇa who had been deceived thus, attacked Drupada. But the problem was solved because Śṇḍī actually became a male. (See the word ṃb). (Ѳٲ īṣm Parva, Chapter 9, Stanza 41).
(6) The king of ٲśṇa took the side of the Kauravas in the battle of ٲ. (Ѳٲ īṣm Parva, Chapter 51, Stanza 12).
(7) 侱ٰṅg岹 was the king of ٲśṇa at the time of the ś sacrifice of ۳ܻṣṭ. In Ѳٲ, ś Parva, Chapter 83, it is stated that Arjuna defeated 侱ٰṅg岹.
