Story of °ä²¹°ù³¾²¹á¹‡v²¹³ÙÄ«

A river in north India, now known as river °ä²¹³¾±èÄå.

General.

King Åš²¹Å›²¹²ú¾±²Ô»å³Ü, who ruled northern India in olden days once performed a ²â²¹Âáñ²¹. The skins (carmans) of animals killed in the ²â²¹Âáñ²¹ lay there in a heap like a hill. When rain fell there flowed from the 'skin-hill' a river and it was called °ä²¹°ù³¾²¹á¹‡v²¹³ÙÄ«. (¶Ù±ð±¹Ä«²ú³óÄå²µ²¹±¹²¹³Ù²¹, Prathama Skandha).

Other details.

(1) River °ä²¹°ù³¾²¹á¹‡v²¹³ÙÄ« serves ³Õ²¹°ù³Üṇa in his assembly. (²Ñ²¹³óÄå²ú³óÄå°ù²¹³Ù²¹ ³§²¹²ú³óÄå Parva, Chapter 9, Verse 21).

(2) Once on the bank of this river Sahadeva defeated the son of Jaṃbhaka in fight. (²Ñ²¹³óÄå²ú³óÄå°ù²¹³Ù²¹ ³§²¹²ú³óÄå Parva, Chapter 31, Verse 7).

(3) He who bathes in this river will get the same result as from the ´¡²µ²Ô¾±á¹£á¹­´Ç³¾²¹ ²â²¹Âáñ²¹. (²Ñ²¹³óÄå²ú³óÄå°ù²¹³Ù²¹ Vana Parva, Chapter 82, Verse 54).

(4) °ä²¹°ù³¾²¹á¹‡v²¹³ÙÄ« is one of the rivers responsible for the origin of Agni. (²Ñ²¹³óÄå²ú³óÄå°ù²¹³Ù²¹ ³§²¹²ú³óÄå Parva, Chapter 222, Verse 23).
