Story of ī

(ұĪٶٱ鴡).

Genealogy.

Descended from վṣṇ thus: վṣṇ--Ѳī-śⲹ貹-վ-Vaivasvatamanu-Priyavrata-ī.

Birth.

Priyavrata, son of Vaivasvatamanu, married ṣmī, daughter of վś첹. ī was one of their ten sons. The other nine sons were: Idhmajihvā, ۲ñ, Ѳ屹ī, ᾱṇyٲ, Ghṛtaprṣṭha, Sava, ѱپٳ, īپdzٰ and Kavi. A daughter also was born to Priyavrata and ṣmī named Ūrjjasvatī. Śܰ married her and ٱ𱹲ī was their daughter.

Married life.

ī married a nymph named ūٳپ. They had nine children: , Kiṃpurusa, Hari, Ilāvrata, Ramyaka, Hirañcaya, Kuru, 󲹻ś, and ٳܳ. It was from this Kuru that the Kuru ղṃśa began.

Other incidents.

(1) ī ruled over ܻ屹ī貹 for a long time. (Devī 岵ٲ, Skandha 8).

(2) While he was the ruler of ܻ屹ī貹 ī once went into a cave and did hard tapas there without eating any food. then sent a beautiful nymph ( maiden) to him to tempt him and thwart his tapas. ī fell a victim to the temptation. His penance was shaken by that nymph named Vipracitti. He married her. (岵ٲ, Skandha 5, Chapter 2).
