This page describes Yatra Parikrama (pilgrimages) (2): Vaishveshvari Yatra which is chapter 100b of the English translation of the Skanda Purana, the largest of the eighteen Mahapuranas, preserving the ancient Indian society and Hindu traditions in an encyclopedic format, detailling on topics such as dharma (virtous lifestyle), cosmogony (creation of the universe), mythology (itihasa), genealogy (vamsha) etc. This is the zeroth chapter 100b of the Uttarardha of the Kashi-khanda of the Skanda Purana.

Chapter 100b - ³ÛÄå³Ù°ùÄå Parikrama (pilgrimages) (2): VaiÅ›veÅ›varÄ« ³ÛÄå³Ù°ùÄå

Thereafter VaiÅ›veÅ›varÄ« ³ÛÄå³Ù°ùÄå (Pilgrimage to ³Õ¾±Å›±¹±ðÅ›±¹²¹°ù²¹) should be performed. This bestows the achievement of all objectives.

42. Then the pilgrimage to the fourteen Ä€²â²¹³Ù²¹²Ô²¹²õ should be duly performed beginning with the first lunar day in the dark half and ending with the fourteenth.

43-47. Or the pilgrimage can be performed on every fourteenth lunar day by the people who desire the mastery of the holy spot. A pilgrim obtains the benefit if he takes bath in the different °ÕÄ«°ù³Ù³ó²¹²õ, worships the different ³¢¾±á¹…g²¹²õ and observes silence while travelling. He will visit (1) °¿á¹ƒkÄå°ù²¹ at the outset after performing aquatic rites in ²Ñ²¹³Ù²õ²â´Ç»å²¹°ùÄ«. Then he should go to (2) °Õ°ù¾±±¹¾±á¹£á¹­²¹±è²¹, (3) ²Ñ²¹³óÄå»å±ð±¹²¹, then (4) °­á¹›t³Ù¾±±¹Äå²õ²¹²õ, (5) ¸é²¹³Ù²Ô±ðÅ›²¹, (6) then CandreÅ›a and then (7) °­±ð»åÄå°ù²¹, then he should go to (8) ¶Ù³ó²¹°ù³¾±ðÅ›±¹²¹°ù²¹, (9) VÄ«reÅ›a, and (10) °­Äå³¾±ðÅ›±¹²¹°ù²¹. Then (11) ViÅ›vakarmeÅ›vara, then (12) Maṇikarṇīśvara. After seeing (13) ´¡±¹¾±³¾³Ü°ì³Ù±ðÅ›±¹²¹°ù²¹ he will worship ³Õ¾±Å›±¹±ðÅ›²¹ (14) This pilgrimage should be assiduously performed by a resident of the holy spot.

48. If someone stays in the holy spot but does not perform this pilgrimage, he will be beset with obstacles indicating expulsion from the holy spot.
