Maritime Museum (Galle) [Photo gallery]
These photos depicts objects exhibited at the Maritime Archaeology Museum in Galle (Sri Lanka). These include objects recovered from the 2nd century B.C. Godawaya shipwreck in association with the U.S. Ambassadors Fund for Cultural Preservation and the Central Cultural Fund of the Ministry of Buddha Sasana, Religious and Cultural Affairs. The Maritime Museum is housed in Galle's historic Dutch warehouse (built in 1671) and opened its doors on May 9, 1992. Its first gallery include ancient watercraft used in passenger transport in Southern Sri Lanka along with exhibits on the traditional fishing lifestyle and techniques. The second gallery focuses on marine ecosystems.
