: Indian Journal of History of Science, 31(4), 1996: Mūṣāvijñānaղūṣ� (वज्रमूषा) or simply Vajra refers to an “diamond crucible� and is a type of ūṣ� (crucible) used for smelting metals.—Vajra-ūṣ� was a specially made hard-crucible which contained specific proportion of the above ingredients. It was used for extraction of metals from ores, where moderate temperatures are needed. Also see Rasaratnasamuccaya 5.171, 230 and Rasārṇava 14.151.
